Today as we commemorate the 28th Anninversary of the Ecole Polytechnique Massacre in Montreal in 1989 let us all remember that many women and girls continue to suffer violence, even torture and death in Canada and throughout the world just because they are female. As we reflect on this history, let us continue our efforts in helping those who are affected by this violence. Our 8400 CFUW members in over 100 Clubs across Canada join with other concerned citizens, female and male, in recognizing this horror and in searching for preventive ways to eradicate this violence from the lives of women and children.

CFUW International Committee SDG series: National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence against Women
On December 6, 2017, CFUW will commemorate and honour the lives of victims of gender-based violence and stand in solidarity with all women experiencing violence, abuse, and harassment. For this occasion, CFUW continues the series on significant days to facilitate the conversation about the Sustainable Development Goals. “We believe the elimination of violence can only be realized with the understanding that aggression against one woman is abuse against all women. The individual cannot be separated from the community and therefore national epidemics of violence have a global impact” says Cheryl Hayles, V.P. International Relations.
