Dining Out, local!

Our Dining out Group stays close to home in the winter months when driving conditions may be challenging. In February, twelve of us enjoyed lunch at Pupusa City, a family owned and operated restaurant in West Brant that features Salvadoran and Mexican food. Our assessment:  Good food, very affordable, an informal atmosphere, attentive service — and walking distance for our members in the Blackburn/Conklin area.

Dining Out at Pinecroft: Superb!

Our Dining Out Group first ventured to Pinecroft two years ago and we were keen to return this year.  The trip to Alymer was delightful, especially on the backroads through farm country and stunning autumn colours.  Pinecroft itself is a log cabin, nestled in the woods, built in 1948 to house a community of potters.  The restaurant serves up hearty, healthy, country fare that is locally sourced and nicely prepared. Our group gathered in the store to check out creations from local artists and crafts people. We think Pinecroft is well worth the drive.

Quatrefoil in Dundas: top notch!

Sixteen of the Dining Out Group enjoyed dinner on April 16th at Quatrefoil in Dundas.  The ambiance, food, and service were top notch.  Of special note were the beef tenderloin, which two people said was the best they had ever had, and the almond financier dessert which we felt was spectacular.  Quatrefoil was commended by Michelin, and we can see why.  It has an outdoor patio that looks charming and some of us might try it in warmer weather.  If you are celebrating a special event and have saved up your allowance, this little gem of a restaurant is well worth the drive to Dundas.

Dining Out: Rangoli’s in Brantford

The Dining out Group likes to stay close to home in the winter months so we were delighted to learn about a new East Indian Restaurant in Brantford called Rangoli’s.  The colourful art on the wall is  joyful, as is the music.  The food was delicious (a few of us were grateful for a dish of yogurt to cool down the tandoori dishes)!  We recommend this restaurant for its good food, relaxed atmosphere, lovely setting and charming staff.

Dining out group

Our Dining out group went to Pinecroft yesterday…. A quintessential autumn delight. The drive on the backroads included fields of pumpkins and forests in dazzling reds, oranges and golds. Pinecroft is a cluster of log cabins nestled in the woods, complete with pottery studio, gift shop and restaurant. The food was sourced locally and beautifully prepared. Homemade soups, grilled cheese and BLTs, top notch Caesar salad (possibly my new gold standard!), and so much more. I think we were high on autumn because the laughter and joy at the table was ….delicious!

Gran Sasso a hit with Dining Out group

The dining out group enjoyed dinner at Gran Sasso in Brantford on November 10th.  The restaurant is quaint and the food is authentic fare from the region of Italy that bears the same name.  We enjoyed bruschetta, with pasta, pork, lamb, or  pizza, as main courses, and Cannoli or Panna Cotta for dessert.  Once again, it was a wonderful evening of animated conversation and much laughter.
