Janice is a teacher, herbalist and mother of the Mohawk Turtle Clan People whose work focuses on the power of the good mind and the truth and reconciliation process in Canada and the United States.

October 22, 2014:
The Power of the Pen, Elaine Charal
Elaine Charal, entertainer extraordinaire will regale us with her “Power of the Pen” presentation. Through her entertaining and intriguing handwriting analysis, we will learn how to communicate more effectively by understanding what the strokes of handwriting mean. Elaine guarantees that her presentation will leave us “rocking with laughter”.
November 26, 2014:
Building in Cambodia, Pat Moore
CFUW’S own Pat Moore will be the guest speaker, sharing with us her presentation “Building in Cambodia: A Habitat for Humanity Global Villager Experience”. Pat was part of a team of volunteers for this build. Pat has volunteered for other builds in other countries. She likes to travel, meet the local people and make a difference in their lives.
January 28, 2015:

Pat is a former member of CFUW Brantford with extensive knowledge in finance, investments and organizational processes. Pat will provide us with a primer on key documents contacts and accounts that need to be available in case of emergency.
February 25, 2015:
Preventing and Responding to Violence against Women and Girls, Teri Shaw and Cheryl Hayles
Information about a key CFUW initiative. Teri Shaw is the CFUW National contact for this initiative and Cheryl Hayes is CFUW contact for IFUW. This is a wonderful opportunity to learn about preventing and responding to violence, locally, nationally and internationally and an excellent lead up to International Women’s Day.
March 25, 2015:
Literacy Trends in Brant, Leslie Telfer, Superintendent of Education, Brant, Haldimand, Norfolk Catholic District School Board.
Leslie will be sharing with us some information related to literacy trends in Brant.
April 22, 2015:
Stedman Community Hospice, Olga Consorti, President and CEO, St. Joseph’s Lifecare Foundation
Olga will speak to us on the expansion of the Stedman Hospice and the mandate of its end-of-life care programme. Meeting location to be announced at a later date.

The Grand River runs 300 km from near Dundalk to Lake Erie. Brantford relies on the Grand River for its water supply but more than that for many outdoor recreation opportunities that keep us active and healthy. Join us to discover the role GRCA plays in our Community and our lives.
Brand new biking group!
CFUW Brantford has a new Biking Interest Group. On their first outing, seven members rode from Mt. Pleasant, south to the Norfolk County line…17 km in total. Contact Lynn Haylock for information if you are interested in the group.
Annual Meeting
CFUW Brantford celebrated a most successful year at our Annual General Meeting. Members were able to review the work done on their behalf by reading the Annual General Report. Cheryl Hayles, the current Regional Director, awarded two certificates of distinction to our club. The first was for hosting one of the most successful Fall Gatherings in CFUW history and the second was for our continued work in advocacy, especially our support of Nova Vita, our local women’s shelter. Cheryl was accompanied by Deborah Harasym, who is nominated for Ontario South Regional Director. She will be taking Cheryl’s place after her election at the CFUW AGM in Kitchener.
Our speaker was Anita Beuhner who gave an inspiring presentation for women facing significant change in their lives. She shared her journey with her husband to transform their family business from tobacco growing to the successful Bonnieheath Estate Lavender and Winery it is today. She shared their plans for the future growth of the business to the production of hard cider and engaged our interest with her description of the activities available at Bonnieheath. She most graciously stayed to the end of our meeting to share information about her lavender products and sell from her display to those who were interested. (www.bonnieheathlavender,com)
Long-standing members were recognized for their commitment to the club and received certificates from CFUW.

30 years: Barbara Perry, Evelyn Picketts, Kay Ruuska, and Karen Williamson
50 years: Alto Hall (who turned 102 this year)
Finally, after the members approved the budget, the incoming Executive was acclaimed. Members were reminded that a Co-Vice President is needed to fill out the slate. Lynn Haylock took over the reins of President. We look forward to another great year.

Join us for our Annual Meeting where we will elect officers and pass a budget for next year. Anita Buehner from Bonnieheath Estate Lavender and Winery (http://bonnieheathlavender.com) is our featured speaker. She will share her journey from tobacco farmer to growing lavender and producing wine. Anita will be bringing some of her products for sale.
